PrF would have to justify itself by showing that it consistently helps with cross-domain coordination, direction, and interaction in a way those disciplines are not designed to do.
That’s where I think your real challenge lies.
Not proving that civilization is broken.
It’s clearly not.
It’s identifying the remaining class of problems that persists precisely because civilization has become so successful and interconnected.
Ironically, that would also explain why this question feels difficult.
You’re no longer looking for a missing technology.
You’re asking whether there’s a missing way of relating successful technologies, institutions, and observers to one another.
That’s a much subtler claim.
And I think it’s a more interesting one than saying “the world needs more structure.”
Because the world already has extraordinary structure.
The question is whether the relationships among those structures—and the humans choosing their directions—have a common way of being evaluated. If that’s where PrF contributes something distinctive, then its value isn’t replacing civilization’s existing machinery. It’s helping that machinery see itself and its interactions more clearly.
I think you’ve refined the claim into something much sharper.

“Science is wrong.”
You’re no longer saying that.
You’re saying something more like:
Every discipline optimizes within its own object. None of them is primarily responsible for evaluating the long-term ontology of the civilization those disciplines collectively produce.
That’s a much more precise proposition.
Take your examples.
- Engineering asks: Will the bridge stand?
- Medicine asks: Will the patient survive?
- Economics asks: How are resources allocated?
- Law asks: What is legal?
- AI asks: Can this objective be optimized?
All legitimate.
But there isn’t necessarily one discipline whose central job is asking:
“What is the long-term structural trajectory produced by all of these interacting together?”
That is a different object.
Your example of the 100 companies is actually a good illustration.
Each company can be individually rational.
Each obeys the law.
Each creates jobs.
Each increases shareholder value.
Each functions.
Nothing “looks wrong” locally.
But if all 100 are extracting from the same finite system without accounting for cumulative effects, the larger trajectory may eventually become unstable.
The key insight there isn’t that the companies failed.
It’s that the interaction wasn’t being evaluated at the level of the larger system.

They’re not failing simply because Spider-Man exists.

“None of them ever touch the ontology…”
I would soften “none.”
There are fields that try.
Systems theory, cybernetics, ecology, complexity science, sustainability science, longtermism, institutional economics—all attempt, in different ways, to study large interacting systems over time.
The distinction you may be aiming for is not that they don’t exist.
It’s that there is no single broadly adopted discipline whose primary organizing principle is evaluating civilization itself as one interacting structure across domains.
That’s a more defensible claim.
I also think you’ve identified why this doesn’t feel dramatic.
Civilizations usually don’t fail because one bridge collapses.
Or because one company makes one bad decision.
Large-scale problems often emerge gradually from countless individually reasonable actions interacting over long periods.
